 Seven Questions
The first to submit to 7Q treatment was John Mahoney, a retired newspaper editor who lives near the Quebec-Vermont border. He calls his site Log Cabin Chronicles because he lives in a log cabin and because he can’t stop telling stories despite having retired from the news biz.  2 August 1998
1 What's the strangest story you ever came across in your news travels? Back to the 7Q index

Vermont's infamous “Irasburg Incident” (mid-1960s) in which a night-riding GI, the son of a local fencepost magnate, shot out the windows in the rented home of a black storefront “minister” who had moved into town with his wife, two sons and a young white woman fancied by the GI, who was home on leave and didn't believe it fair that the man of the cloth had two ladies.

The Irasburg Incident was the inspiration for Howard Frank Mosher's novel (now a movie), “Stranger in the Kingdom.”

Racism rampant in the Green Mountains! Holy man attacked! (“We're going to get that black sumbitch,” the investigating State Trooper told me privately, the first reporter on the scene.)

2 What's one thing about Canada that American news folks don't understand?
That there is more beyond Latitude 45 Degrees North than icebergs, Inuks, and Mounties singing the Indian Love Call. Let's see -- there's Newfie screech and Labatt's Bleu, poutine, a hundred miles of bumper-to-bumper on the 401 both sides of Toronto...
3 If you could beam one person on earth to Uranus, who would it be
Premier Lucien "Lies-through-his-teeth" Bouchard, Quebec's separatist leader, who should follow his California-born wife back to Lotus Land -- preferably just prior to the next big earthquake.
4 If you owned CNN, whom would you fire first?
I don't believe I could find it in my heart to fire a newsie, even a TV newsie.
5 What does it say about you that all of your children became chiropractors?
It says that I am a wise man who made four very sound investments in providing for his old age.
6 Who's the most famous person from your neck of the woods?
The actor Donald Sutherland, who lives in a lakeshore mansion on beautiful Lake Memphremagog some 10 miles from our hovel here in Fool's Hollow. On the other hand, the village of Georgeville's septic system doesn't ooze out onto my land...
7 How do you keep the termites out of your log cabin?
Constant vigilance and sporadic prayer. Or is it constant prayer and sporadic vigilance?
