What is it, anyway? Tom is a newsman by trade and a Web junkie by inclination. He has done over 120 e-mail interviews over the past three years. The first batch were journalists, the latest batch were friends, family, co-workers, volunteers and fellow webaholics. Michael is a Linux geek, and got involved after being interviewed. Why are they worthy interview subjects? Because we're able to learn enough about them to draw out interesting answers. And because they're capable storytellers. Why interview via email? Because it's expedient -- easy to cut and paste out of a message and onto a Web page. If you're a journalist I'd strongly recommend against e-mail interviews -- you lose all the body language and you limit yourself to people who can write well, which isn't many. Why aren't there more women, people of color, gays & lesbians, etc., among the interviews? Because Tom is a Web-centric white guy who gravitates toward others of his kind. We're working on it.
